Three Shoot Video

Here's an example of how to get good sound in a noisy environoment. If the camcorder is 6 feet away from the subject, a microphone, possibly on a boom to avoid putting shadow on the subject, is held 2 ft. away. This makes a world of difference, since sound intensity is subject to the inverse square law. What this means is that, since sound disperses in 3 dimensions, the energy of the sound dissipates quite rapidly. A microphone 2 feet away from a subject might have an intensity level 8 times greater than the microphone on the camcorder.
2X2 = 4
6X6 = 36
36 / 4 = 8
This seems counterintuitive, since we generally aren't aware of such a difference, compared with ambient noise.
